It's Wednesday, I'm in Love...

It's Wednesday!  So that means we're already in the middle of the week, Hump Day, if you will.  Everyone needs a little pick-me-up around this time, right?  We decided that to help us get through the week we would share our favorite fictional love stories.  It can be a favorite of all time or from the book you're currently reading.  As long as it involves love, come on over and share!
This Wednesday, let’s discuss
The couple that didn’t get together, but should have.
You know, the guy that just never caught a break or the girl that can’t see what was right in front of her face.  Maybe he was from another world, and she couldn’t go with him.  Or one of them doesn’t survive the battle.  Whatever the reason, what couple would you liked to have gotten together?
Monica’s Choice
In most cases, my favorite couplings are always the ones that survive in the end.  When we came up with this topic, a ton of movies rushed through my head, but I was at a loss for books.  Like, how the heck could Samantha pick Kelley over Jasper in Here on Earth?!  Chris Klein over Josh Hartnett? Sure...  Don’t even get me started on Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried.  But we’re talking about books, I digress.  So I’ll pick a recent read, Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.  Warning: if you have not yet read this (go do so immediately) do not go any further.  Okay, so it’s a series and the second one just came out, so we don’t know for sure who Evie will end up with.  But I would have liked to see a little bit of action between Evie and Reth, other than the “ex factor.”  Make it a real love triangle, not just some mega-possessive faerie trying to hold her against her will forever.  Tension!  I need some tension!  And some of the consensual persuasion, not the kind that she doesn’t have a choice in her attraction.  Anyway, I’m hoping that there will be a little more drama between Evie and Reth in the second book, preferably with a bit of lip-locking action.
Lindsey’s Choice
Like Monica, this question is very difficult for me.  While you read through my answer, it may take just a minute to read, but trust me, it did not take a minute to ponder this question.  Off the top of my head Aislinn and Keenan, from Wicked Lovely, are the first to jump in my thoughts.  Aislinn can see invisible faeries although she is a human.  If you love faerie books as much as I do, you know how cruel faeries are to humans.  They love to tease, taunt, and torture us (considering you're a human).  So for Aislinn, seeing faeries while they are wandering in the city, invisible, is a very dangerous thing.  If they recognize that she can see them, they are more than likely going to kill her.  She has a crush on a long time friend, Seth.  I wanted nothing more for them to be together.  She's had a crush on him for a long time and they flirt like crazy.  I loved it!  But Keenan, the Summer King, needs a wife.  The Summer Court depends on it.  They are withering away.  Keenan thinks Aislinn is "the one."  So who does she end up with?  Well, I guess it's obvious, considering the question and my answer.  Keenan still loves his previous wife, Aislinn loves Seth, but gosh darn it!  I want them together!
Julianne’s Choice
I love this question because there is actually a book I read a while back and I still am extremely disappointed in the girl's choice. The book is Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. Calla is the beautiful alpha female in her wolf pack. Ren is the handsome alpha male of her rival pack. Now these two have an arranged marriage to start a new pack and release tension between the rival packs. Then Shay comes along. He and Calla are supposedly "soulmates." So Calla and Shay begin to secretly see each other behind Ren's back, which honestly ticks me off. If you haven't already noticed I think that Calla should be with Ren. But no, she has to be with her "soulmate." My favorite scenes in the book are when Calla and Ren are together. My thoughts behind her reasoning for not wanting to be with him is that she is arranged to marry him and she has no choice. Then Shay comes along and ruins that, I mean then he comes along and shows that she can have a choice. The second novel just came out recently so there is hope yet for them to be together. I'll be crossing my fingers! TEAM REN FOREVER!

Heathcliff and Catherine!  I love the Bronte sisters, but Miss Emily sure created a couple I wanted to strangle in Wuthering Heights.  Needless to say, I strongly dislike them.  They were selfish, immature and incredibly self-centered.  I guess they were perfect for each other.  Is it too harsh to say that they deserved the end they got?  Yeah?  Well, I kind of feel (disregard the prior use of kind of) that way.  They were after all, fictional characters, so nobody’s feelings will really get hurt from that sentiment.

This Wednesday, let’s discuss our favorite Love Triangle.  We know they aren’t everybody’s thing, but here at Heart Bound, we just can’t get enough.  **This is a re-post from last week.  Lindsey and Julianne didn’t answer it then, so I thought I’d give them another chance. -Monica**

I love me a good love triangle, especially when it's hard to decide between which pairing is the best.  This week I'm going to pick the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.  I'm not sure if I would necessarily call the triangle between Mac, Barrons and V'lane a LOVE triangle, but a girl can hope that it will turn into one.  Can't she?  Of course!  Anyway, there are moments that I am torn between whether I prefer Barrons or V'lane or either one at all.  I don't know if I've shared on here my weakness for a fairy (not in real-life of course, my husband would probably like me to comment on his manliness that drips with virile testosterone) and V'lane pretty much fits the bill for what I like in my fairies.  Yet for the most part, I am all Team Barrons.  He's tall, dark, handsome, mysterious and lethal.  What could be a better combo?  He can be, and almost always is, a huge jerk, but he never fails when it comes to saving Mac's life.  Sometimes he's even tender, but it's a quick flash and before Mac can process it, Barrons is back to his cold self.  So can Mac trust him?  Or is he one of the bad guys that she'll have to kill in the end?  I can't wait to find out when I finish up the last of the Fever series, Shadowfever.  I just hope I can handle whatever happens!

I just finished reading the second book of the Celestra Series.  Ethereal is a fallen angel book.  I love my angels and demons!  So far I have really enjoyed these books.  Unfortunately I think they are only books that can be read on the Kindle.  Skyla is a typical teenager who moves to a new town.  She meets Logan and immediately falls in love with him.  It was love at first sight.   But for some reason I have always got to root for the underdog.  In this case it is Logan's cousin, Gabe.  There is something about Gabe that I love.  Maybe it's that he's not as protective of Skyla.  He lets her do what she wants.  He explains things to her.  He never waivers on his devotion for her.  But he has to sit and watch Skyla with Logan.  When it becomes too dangerous for Logan and Skyla to be seen together he gets to become her "fake" boyfriend.  For appearance sake, he gets to kiss her. Even Skyla begins to question who she loves more.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for Gabe.

This Wednesday, let’s discuss our favorite Opposites Attract couple.
Monica’s Choice
Since I just finished up Perfect Chemistry, I have Alex and Brittany on the brain.  At times, they are complete opposites, extremes on either end of the spectrum.  He’s super bad, she’s super good and they’ve both worked hard to maintain those images.  And that’s the thing, they both live a life contrary to what they feel is right for them.  They sacrifice what they want for family, although the reasons are different.  Alex doesn’t like Brittany and she doesn’t like him.  So why are they drawn to each other?  They’re not headed for a fairy tale, but what they feel for each other is real and raw.  It will open them up to hurt and vulnerability.  Will it be worth it?
This is who I picture as Alex.  This is who I pictured as Brittany.

Lindsey’s Choice

This week my choice is mostly based on a TV show and partly based on a book.  I first read The Vampire Diaries over 15 years ago (yikes!).  I loved it then but that was also around the time that I quit reading.  Thank goodness L J. Smith is still writing them (or at least for now, that's another post).  Within the past year I have started reading it again.  Now it is a series.  I don't even know where to begin describing the books other than Stefan and Damon are vampires.  While Stefan naturally tries to be good, Damon, his brother is naturally bad.  So it's the whole good vs. bad thing.  In the book I love Elena and Stefan together (for now at least), but I have to say I LOVE the chemistry between Elena and Damon on the show.  It's a show I watch with my sisters and only my sisters.  I live in Memphis, one lives in Arizona, and the other lives in Birmingham.  So you can guess how often I get to watch the show.  I LOVE it though.  I feel like I am betraying them if I ever watch it on my own.  Because of this, I have missed this last season.  I really want to catch up.  I really want Elena and Damon to get together.  Watch this clip and you'll see why,

This Wednesday, let’s discuss our favorite couple from a Paranormal.
Monica’s Choice
Paranormal is one of my favorite genres, so naming my favorite couple is harder than I thought it would be.  Hmmm...  Okay, I’ve got one, Jay and Violet from The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting.  They are best friends, pretty much from birth and I love watching the slow, plausible progression into something more.  Violet fights the attraction, gets sweat-inducing nervous around Jay and all the while he seems totally oblivious.  But is he really?  You’ll just have to read to find out.  This is one of the best YA books I have read in quite a while and I recommend it to anyone that loves a good Paranormal.
Lindsey’s Choice
This was pretty tough for me too.  I mean, seriously, just one?  I guess there will plenty more Wednesdays.
Now, when I read a book, I like a good love story, but I hate it when it starts to get a little too mushy (sorry Twilight, I loved the books but there were times when i got a little fed up).  I thought the love connection between Aislinn and Seth in Wicked Lovely was PERFECT.  Aislinn is shy, especially when it comes to dealing with boys.  She has a good friendship with Seth, who is no where near shy when it comes to girls.  He can get any girl he wants, and often does.  There is always a lot of energy between the 2 of them, and flirting lots of flirting.  I love the flirting.  Will they ever make a love connection?  Or will Keenan steal her heart before she has a chance to fall for Seth?  You'll have to read to find out.
Julianne’s Choice
Yes, i am in fact a REAL person. I am not just a figment of my sister's imagination. Anyways like my seesters I love reading Paranormal novels. I have been meaning to post for the past couple of weeks but I've been busy with the end of school and camp to get around to posting. So you get to hear my thoughts at last! So here goes....

Jace and Clary have got to be hands down one of my most favorite couples ever. Since I have just finished reading the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments Series, they have been on my mind A LOT. Actually to be honest they are always on my mind because I just LOVE the two of them. I knew they were meant for each other since the moment they met. It maybe helped that Jace was also very, very sexy. When they found out that they were brother and sister, I went into denial and would not accept it. Throughout the whole series I just would not believe it. Besides them being possibly related they have to be one of the ANGSTIEST (I know that isn't a word but oh well) couples ever..... and i LOVE it. When I read scenes with them together I just can't help but smile and feel happy inside. You have to be wondering... are they related? You'll just have to read to find out.

I am reading Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts.  I’m not that far in and I already love the inevitable couple.  At least, I hope they’re inevitable.  Rowan Tripp and Gulliver Curry.  Great names, right?  Although I keep calling Gull, Gulliver’s Travels.  Luckily, he mostly goes by Gull, so I don’t it every time I see his name.  They are both fire jumpers, but she’s been doing it for a while and he’s a rookie.  She’s tall, blonde and athletic.  He’s also tall, dark hair and has green eyes.  I’m a sucker for green eyes (I even married someone with them).  Anyway, his attraction to Rowan, “Swede,” is instant.  Hers not so much, but he works on her pretty hard.  Besides she has a rule that she does not date other fire jumpers.  We’ll see how long that last.  Gull is pretty convincing that she should give up that rule.

"I know that life isn't life if you just float though it.  I know that the whole point--the only point--is to find the things that matter, and hold on to them, and fight for them, and refuse to let them go."  -Lena (Delirium)
I haven't finished my review for Delirium but I give it the most possible stars.  I loved the book!!!
Lena has been raised her whole life believing that love is a disease.  A cure has been found but the procedure is only safe if you are 18 or older (even then there are risks).  So she is counting down the days to her procedure.  But then she meets Alex and she starts to learn that love is not a disease.  It goes against the laws, her country, all her teachings.  She is left with one question, is love really a disease?  And if it is, is it worth risking your life to have it?  (oops!  I guess that's 2 questions)

Since I just finished Rebecca and it’s still fresh on my mind, I’ll go with Maxim and the 2nd Mrs. de Winter.  I wasn’t so sure about their romance for most of the book, but by the end and after a hefty revelation, a flip was switched and there was a new passion between the two of them.  I was satisfied the book ended where it did but I would have loved to see their relationship progress even more.  Especially picturing the handsome Laurence Olivier and the beautiful Joan Fontaine from the 1940 film adaptation.  Swoon. Worthy.

Lindsey’s Choice
Imagine a life where love does not exist.  With the absense of love there is also the absense of hate.  No hate in the world is a good thing, right?
That is the goal of the United Stetes in the book DeliriumLove is a disease, one that they are working to eradicate.  Love is a weakness.  It is an emotion that cannot be controlled.  People die in the name of love.  So why not end the pain that love can create?
Lena is less than 90 days away from getting the disease removed from her body.  She can't wait to get rid of it, but there is another part of her that is starting to realize she wants to love.
There are times in everyone's lives that I am sure they would love (haha) to get rid of the pain that love can cause.  But what would you do if that were actually possible?  Would you be happy?  Isn't happiness just a branch from the tree of love?  What would we really loose by taking love away?

My favorite couple in love this week is Dru and Christophe from the Strange Angels series.  Although I think their love story is a bit lagging, I actually have enjoyed watching it blossom.  Dru very much did not want to like this guy, and I think he was immediately drawn to her.  He’s the epitome of a bad boy.  Raised by the King of vampires to kill, he’s dangerous and unpredictable.  Yet he’s reformed.  But just how much?  He always keeps his word when it comes to Dru and protects her with his own life.  She needs a little nudging in his direction, however, because she doesn’t quite trust him.  She knows he keeps things from her and hates it.  With that being said, she always feels safe when she knows he is near, and even safer when he’s holding her close.  Swoon-worthy!
Here are some of my favorites quotes from Defiance (both said by Christophe):
“Skowroneczko moja.”  His right hand slid up the outside of my shoulder, along Graves’s coat, and he was touching my hair as well as breathing in my ear. All the blood sort of rushed to my head and made a sound like pulsing static.  “I won’t push, and I don’t pry. All I ask is a little attention. A little consideration.”
“I don’t blame you if it’s not . . . enough. I’m tainted, I know as much. Just . . . let me stay near you. Please.”

The kids are in bed, the dishes are done, the laundry...well, the laundry is in a neat pile on the couch.  But that is okay.  Sitting in my purse, right now, is I Am Number 4.  Normally I would be excited about a book being in my purse but tonight I am equally excited about a movie.  I'm so excited because today is about fictional love stories.  While I wouldn't call this book a "love story" it fortunately has one in it.  And tonight I will be watching the movie and folding a mountain of laundry.
John (played by Alex Pettyfer, sigh) and Sarah (Diana Agron) are 2 high school students.  John has spent his entire life on earth running from one place to the next.  Never spending too much time in one area.  He has just moved to a tiny town in Paradise Ohio where he meets Sarah.  He says "I've never seen a girl so good-looking."  Sarah is such a nice person, she's honest, she's giving, and friends with everyone.  I look up to her in so many ways.  She remains true to herself.  John loves this about her and quickly falls in love.  One of my favorite parts from the book:
"I miss you," I say.
"You miss me? But I'm right here."
"That's the worst way to miss somebody.  When they're right beside you and you miss them anyway."

My choice this week is Eve Dallas and Roarke from the In Death series by JD Robb.  They are another one of my all-time favorites and I recently finished Holiday in Death, so they are fresh on my mind.  These two needed each other more than they'll ever know.  Neither one had a decent childhood or anyone that loved them.  They had to both work hard and reinvent themselves.  Luckily, each was successful in their own way.  Eve became a hard-fighting police detective that stands up for the victims with a rare passion.  Roarke has risen from the slums (and crime) of Ireland to become what is probably the world's most successful man.  Each book in the series demonstrates their love for each other and how it is in constant growth.  Roarke works hard to give Eve the family she never had and he also protects her with a deep, unwavering fierceness.  Eve keeps Roarke in line and loves him for who he is and not what he has (which she honestly could care less about).  I love watching them learn more about each other and themselves through their relationship.  Also, the banter/bickering is one of my favorite parts of the series.  They are hilarious moments.  Here is one of my favorites from Vengeance in Death:
Eve: "Thanks for your input, but I'll just muddle along here.  The chances of me getting the commander to take the word of a seven-year-old kid -- who no doubt had chocolate breath -- over hard evidence is just slightly less likely than me dancing naked in Times Square."

She started off at a loping stride.  "If Times Square intimidates you,"  Roarke began, "perhaps you could practice the naked dance at home."

"Oh, bite me."

"Darling, I'd love to, but you're on duty."

"Get in the #$% car."  She jerked a thumb at Peabody, who was currently doing her best to pretend she was deaf and blind.

"Please, Eve, these public displays of affection must stop.  I have a reputation."
Roarke needs to learn to stay out of Eve's way when she's on a case.  But I hope he doesn't, just so I get more of these moments.
Want to know what my Roarke looks like?  Go here.  Eve is harder for me.  But this is who I mostly picture here.  Yeah, I know Eve has short hair, oh well.

I'll start this new weekly meme off with my favorite of all time love story.  Drum roll, please..............
Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester
I have always loved these two.  From the moment they met, I wanted them together.  Jane with her loveless childhood (minus a few good people in there) and Mr. Rochester with his tortured, scarred past.
I love that Jane was strong enough to leave, only to come back when she knew who she was to reclaim the man she loved.  And he had been waiting for her for all that time.  They are my ideal characters, so for them to have found each other is perfect.  Nobody but Miss Bronte could have written it better.  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book:
"He is not to them what he is to me,"
I thought: "he is not of their kind. I believe he is of mine; –
I am sure he is, – I feel akin to him,
– I understand the language of his
countenance and movements:
I have something in my brain and heart,
in my blood and nerves,
that assimilates me mentally to him.
… I must, then, repeat continually that we are for ever sundered: –
and yet, while I breathe and think I must love him."
-Jane from Jane Eyre

For this first Wednesday I have to share a few lines of my favorite love story.  It's the poem, Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe.  His words are like velvet and my writing will never compare.  So, I'll get to the point...

But our love it was stronger by far then the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angel in heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:-
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride
In her sepulchre there by the sea-
In her tomb by the side of the sea.
